1. Record the current condition
Note what isn’t working, what’s simply dated, and any prior work already done.
2. Evaluate the systems, not just the layout
Cabinetry layout, clearances, lighting, ventilation, plumbing, electrical capacity, and any wall you want opened all need to be resolved before a finish gets selected.
3. Put the full scope in writing
Preparation, protection, materials, access, permits, testing, cleanup, restoration, exclusions, and change-order pricing should all be documented.
4. Evaluate providers on reasoning, not just price
Verify credentials, then compare how each provider approaches the identical scope.
5. Confirm the closeout
Testing, cleanup, documentation, warranty terms, and remaining maintenance should all be confirmed before final sign-off.
